Thai Fairy Shrimp are a freshwater shrimp found
in the northeastern part of Thailand. Baby fairy shrimp are a perfect food
for newborn betta fry. Thai fairy shrimp have a high protein content (70%)
but a low fat content (1.6%). They have a high hatching percentage and are
easy to maintain and feed.
To hatch fairy shrimp all you need is a
container about the size of a drinking glass. Fill the container halfway
up with clean water at a temperature of 20.0 to 32.0 degrees centigrade.
Put in one teaspoon of eggs and let them become water saturated. Place the
container under a light (a desk lamp will do) for 15 hours so that they will
hatch. You may then feed them to your betta fry. How easy is that!
Thai Fairy Shrimp will live for 3 to 4 months if you feed them "green water".
The adults will produce more eggs, which will drop to the bottom of the
container. These can then be harvested for hatching in yet another
container, and the cycle continues. Wonderful economical healthy food
source for betta fry -- so easy to maintain and yet such a healthy food.
